Recent studies have
shown that nutrition plays a bigger role in weight loss than physical activity.
This means that a healthy lifestyle should begin with proper nutrition. However,
because physical activity also has valuable health benefits, it’s a good idea
to combine the two. You can take an active role in improving and maintaining
your overall health by adopting some healthy habits.
1. Replace the 10" plate with an
8" inch plate and you will eat less.
2.
Never shake salt directly from a salt
shaker into your meal, always use measuring utensils or the palm of your hand
so that you can see how much salt you’ve added.
3.
Cook more and eat out less, and you know
what’s in your food, and you won’t have to guess.
4.
A meal is a plate that contains items
from at least three food groups, such as; meats, vegetables and starch.
5.
Don’t skip breakfast and you won't be as
hungry or eat as much the next meal.
6.
Don’t skip meals, and eat at least three
main meals a day at regular three or four-hour intervals to prevent binge
eating.
7.
Don’t eat heavy meals after 7:00 p.m. Instead,
eat light, healthy, low-calorie snacks after this time.
8.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate; drink plenty
of water to maintain proper hydration.
9.
Snack-healthy between meals because
snacks curve the appetite until the next meal, but snacks should not replace
the next meal.
10.
To control what you eat, always eat a
snack before eating out or attending an event where there will be food.
11.
Get up and move; go for a walk, do
housework, plant flowers, take the stairs, go window shopping, or volunteer.
12.
Choose healthy alternatives; drink water
instead of sugary drinks, choose baked food items instead of fried, replace
white potatoes with sweet potatoes, and substitute olive oil for butter.
13.
Keep healthy snacks like fruit, nuts and
popcorn with you so that if you get hungry you will always have something to
eat.
14.
Don’t eat to get full, because the more
food that is eaten, the harder the body has to work to digest it.
15.
Take preventive health measures by
getting routine medical check-ups, because early diagnosis increases the rate
of recovery.
