Quickly Set Up a RSS MailChimp Campaign
In my last article titled, “Easily Engage with Subscribers Using MailChimp,” we installed a
MailChimp list-subscribe form on the WordPress website. As promised, this
article will cover setting up a RSS MailChimp campaign so that users that
subscribe to the MailChimp list will receive a RSS feed every time you post to
your blog.
As mention in my previous article, the process for setting
up MailChimp on a WordPress website involves: Step One - Setup of a MailChimp
account; Step Two - Setup of a RSS-driven MailChimp campaign; and Step Three -
Connecting the MailChimp account to the WordPress website. This article will cover
Step Two - Setup of a RSS-driven MailChimp campaign. The next MailChimp article
will cover Step Three.
Set
Up a RSS MailChimp Campaign
Let’s get started by logging into the MailChimp account
and using the following instructions as a guide to set up the MailChimp RSS
feed.
1.From the MailChimp Dashboard
select “Create New Campaign.”
2.Select “RSS-Driven Campaign,” then click “Select.”
3.Input your RSS feed URL (Refer to my article titled, “Google FeedBurner in WordPress Made Easy.”)
.
· Example URL: http://feeds.feedburner.com/yourdomainname (without the .com extension)
4.Select when the content is to be sent, then click
“Next.”
· It is recommended to select “Every Day” to automatically send emails when you post to the blog.
5.Select which list the email will be connected to, then
click “Next.”
6.At this point you should give the campaign a name, make
changes if necessary or select other options, then click “Next.”
· Example Name: My Blog Name
7.Next, select a template (If you’re new at this, it is
recommended to start with a simple one-column template).
8.Customize your email.
9.In the content area select “RSS Item” template and drag
and drop into place.
10.Then, click “Save” to save the template.
Congratulations! You have set up a RSS MailChimp campaign.
In my next article we will cover connecting the MailChimp account to the
WordPress website so that changes made on the MailChimp account can be updated
on the WordPress Dashboard. This is beneficial because it eliminates the need
to switch back and forth from MailChimp to WordPress.
